This shawl was on the needles for a long time.
Over a year.
Which is definitely a record for me.
I started it on April 23 2017, and I finished it on May 5 2018 (although I did put it away for the winter to focus on woollier projects). It is a kit from Knit Picks (Lindy Chain yarn and Catamaran pattern by Bekah Knits). I’m very very pleased with how it turned out (and kind of want to make another fingering weight shawl–just not with linen), but it was a bit of a bumpy road to get there. This was one of the first projects I ever started with fingering weight yarn, and it was quite difficult to adjust to how slow going that was (Dan and I called it a squirrel shawl for a long while). Also, I don’t love knitting flat. I much prefer knitting in the round where I can just knit, knit, knit, and never have to purl. Also, I didn’t love this yarn. I also had a bit of trouble with the double yarn overs at the beginning–I kept wrapping my yarn the wrong way.
BUT I’m super pleased with how it turned out–thank goodness I stuck with it! I almost want to keep it for myself, but it is for my wonderful mom! Originally it was for Mother’s Day last year, then when that came and went, the goal was her birthday in August. Then when that came and went, the goal became the following Mother’s Day. And I am happy to announce that I made that goal and don’t have to extend it to her birthday in August!
And I can say that here, the week before Mother’s Day, because no one is even reading this blog yet 🙂
